Founded in 1969, the German Association of Biomedical Scientists (dvta) is the professional body for biomedical scientists and medical technologists in Germany. The Associations office is located in Hamburg, in the north of Germany. With 18,000 members it is one of the leading associations in the German public health sector. Mrs. Andrea Michelsen is President of the German Association of Biomedical Scientists since 2004. During the last few years the dvta has implemented a Credit-Point-System together with the German Institute for Further Education of Medical Technologists in Berlin (DIW-MTA) in order to document life long learning. One of the aims of the association is a to redefine the competences of biomedical scientists, especially in matters of other professions, as well as the ability to do bachelor and master courses for biomedical scientists.
