Climate

Berlin enjoys pleasant, sunny summers when days are long and temperatures can sometimes exceed 86F (30C), particularly in July and August. However the summer months are also unpredictable, and odd days can rapidly change from sunshine to cloud. July and August are considered to be the warmest and the wettest months in the seasonal cycle in Berlin.

Time Zone

The time zone in Berlin is Central European Time (CET) (GMT +1 hour), and six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Berlin Airports

Berlin has two main international city airports -  Tegel (TXL) and Schönefeld (SXF).
Please note that the Brandenburg airport which was scheduled to open in May 2012, will now not open until 2013.

Tegel airport is located close to the city center. Taxi fares to the center are approximately €20. Public transport is quick and easy and you can travel directly into the center by bus or take a bus to the nearby train and undergroud station and switch if you want to reach other areas of Berlin.

Schönefeld airport is located approximately 18 km from the city center. Taxi fares to the city are around €35. Alternatively you can take the Aiport Express to Ku'damm (30 minutes journey).

Registration & Accommodation

All participants must submit a completed registration form. Hotel accommodation at special congress rates are offered to participants.

Personal Insurance

All participants are recommended to have personal travel and health insurance for their visit to Berlin.

Banking and Exchange

The official currency in Germany is the Euro (€).
As a general rule, it’s cheaper to convert money in Germany than at home. When changing money in Germany, try to go only to banks or Geldwechsel (money exchange) locations that have at most a 5% margin between their buy and sell prices.

Tipping

Where restaurants exclude service it is usual to add 5 to 10%. Porters, hair dressers and taxi drivers expect a small tip.

Visa Requirements

Citizens of other European Union countries need only a valid national ID to enter Germany. Citizens of Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, and several other countries need a valid passport and can stay for up to 90 days without a visa. Most other nationalities must have a passport and valid visa.

We recommend that you check with your travel agent before you confirm your travel.
